Red face Legal age

The legal age for drinking alcohol in licensed premises in Thailand is 21, but like everything else in the country, it is policed only very occasionally.

If you look 18 you just tell them you're 21 in the unlikely event that you are ever questioned regarding your age.

The drinking age in Thailand is over 18 years but it's not strictly enforced like it is back in Farangland. You can buy alcohol in supermarkets & corner shops and nobody will ever ask for ID or proof of age. You certainly won't get any hassles back at your hotel. The legal age to enter clubs & discos is 20 but again you are unlikely to be hassled or asked for ID, although Thai teens are generally well checked. If you are underaged the only real risk you face of getting into trouble is if you are unfortunate enough to be in a Bangkok club when the Thai cops pull one of their raids and do piss testing for drugs. These raids have also happened occassionally in Phuket. Remember that by Thai law a foreigner is supposed to carry their passport at all time - but few ever do this. To me it's dumb to carry a passport if I'm going out on the tiles for the night, just greatly increase the risk of loosing it.
