Good report. Nice to see someone just having fun and going shopping and having a good time.

Sometimes you just don't want to visit a Wat or ride an elephent.

I was worried everyone would be so bored with tales of pool, shop, eat, drink, shop, hair, drink, dinner, drink ... I was a bit embarrassed when I reread it before finally posting as the trip just seemed so "shallow"!
My kind of holiday

I enjoyed your report so much!!!!! I am flying to BKK Thursday 29th and after a few days in Chiang Mai will be in BKK for 6 days staying at PP as well.

Do the shops in MBK have larger size clothing?

Default Thanks Linda!

I have to admit that I am often blown away at some of the adventurous and cultural things that many members get up to - but that's just not me! I love reading about their exploits, but when I go on holidays, I just want great food, warmth, shopping and relaxation!

Linda, it's so hard to get bigger clothing in Thailand!! I'm an Australian size 10-12 and even I found lots of the cheaper stuff just didn't fit me. There are a few stalls in MBK that stock the larger sizes - mainly things like kaftans, t-shirts and what I would loosely call "ethnic clothing", sort of tribal things like drawstring and fisherman's pants - but you won't find fashionable stuff in Westerners' sizes in the department stores etc ... it's very frustating! I'm sure that this will probably change in the future, as I seemed to notice a big increase in visitors from the Middle East on my last trip - and (this is NOT a racist remark, purely an observation!) these tourists do tend to be more generously proportioned and so hopefully they will start catering to the foreign market a bit more, and not just the dainty local people!

Enjoy your trip - I would be jealous, but I'll be back in late July!

Hi Shane,
Just saw this post as I was trawling around. Re your query about The Loft foodcourt - it's in Central Department Store in Chitlom. It's easily accessible from the walkway to the BTS.

The foodcourt in MBK has been completely revamped and is now a funky looking, nicely decorated place. There's a variety of food stalls - everything from Japanese, Thai, Italian etc. etc. and when your food is ready, it will be brought to your table.
Not sure of restaurants around that area as when there, I either go to the foodcourt or one of the restaurants in MBK.

Also tell your mum that the coffeeshop in Pathumwan Princess has great baguettes, sandwiches, pies and cakes !!

Default Thanks Kimbo

Thanks Kimbo, Mum and Dad will be back by now but we are going to Bangkok for a few days in late OCt , on route to Ao nang and Phi Phi. I loved the MBK food court but thought the Loft was a class above and preferred the card system to the tickets. Some of the food we had there was top noch. Has the upgrade to the MBK food court had much affect on pricing ? Is there a really good Thai restaraunt in the MBK ?

Hi again Shane,
After I posted I re-read the thread and only then noticed the date of your other post .
Yes, The Loft is quite upmarket for a food court and food is very good. But it's soooo crowded at lunchtime!

The MBK foodcourt is very nice now........looks more like some a big casual restaurant. I can't remember whether it's a card system or still coupon though. I think the renovations have only been done in the last 12 months or so.

Another one that's nice is the one in Emporium (5th floor I think) This one is smaller but has some quality food counters - and also a swipe card payment system.

Yes, I DO eat at other places when in Bangkok!! just when I'm shopping, I like to use the food courts - no need to go outside somewhere to find a place for a rest break and fuel stop.
