Saw on another post some attitude against Air Asia, Havent flown Air Asia before but i havent heard any bad reports except maybe for some flight delays, they are to start flying Australia-Malaysia later this year as AirAsiaX, are they ok? bring on the cheap fares I say!
also how are Tiger Air anyone flown Darwin or Perth to Singapore?

they're fine. They're not delayed anymore than any other discount airline. The flight I took with them to Myanmar last year was quite enjoyable. the plane was better comfort wise than Bangkok Air, or Nok Air.

The one thing they do now though is charge for food on the short flights, not sure about their planned Au flight, but I would immagine they will, so pack a lunch.

If you have the patience of a saint and can be bothered to read through my looooooong JBRs, you'll see I have some great things to say about Jetstar!

I was really impressed with them ... lovely planes, excellent crew, good food and entertainment ... overall a really pleasant experience and about 100 times better than the Qantas economy flights to Thailand and back last year - and about a fifth of the price!

Hopefully with all these new budget airlines starting to operate out of Australia, the prices will continue to drop, and flying to Asia will become even more affordable!

Anyway, in my humble opinion, three cheers for Jetstar!

I use Air Asia a lot and I've used Jetstar once to get to Jakarta from Bangkok. Jetstar actually cancelled part of my return leg back to Bangkok (no warning and no explanation) and I had to wait 5 extra hours in Changi to catch the next flight. No info at Changi either... nothing on the departure boards and the info desk just shrugged and said "it's a budget airline", as if that's an explanation. Luckily Changi must be the best airport in the world so I managed to occupy myself with the free internet, a swim in the pool and a trip to the hairdresser.

Air Asia is better than Jetstar (and far better than European budget airlines) IMO as far as customer service is concerned... at least you get polite and smiling air hostesses!

There are delays with Air Asia but I've never had a flight cancelled with them. There is no seat allocation so you may not get seats with the people you're travelling with. The plans are newish though and the seats are leather. I'd go for it. Check the baggage allowance though. I've never been charged for excess baggage but I've seen reports of people who have.

Flew with them in Jan and they were really good, ontime no problems. I would fly again, I was nervous at first but all was good. Watch out for how heavy your bags are as they charge for extra.

I have a rule when flying Air Asia.

As long as I don't have to be somewhere at specific time they are fine. If you arrive 2 hours late at the pool side bar no harm done but If you have an ajoining flight don't take the risk and fly Thai.

Thanks guys, I am really looking forward to the new airlines flying to Oz,hopefully Tiger have some good cheap connections to Darwin or Perth to tag onto their asian network, i dont think they have plans to fly from Melb or Syd direct to Singapore-anyone know,but Air Asiawill be flying direct to KL from the eastern states i presume, bring it on, maybe able to afford two trips a year then

Husband and I flew Air Asia in Feb. (Macau-KL).
Flight was on time but that was about the only positive.
1. There is NO seat allocation and this caused a debacle when queuing, later at boarding gate and also once onboard - a real bunfight.

Having arrived very early, we were close to the front of the queue for boarding and we all waited for the terminal doors to open so we could walk (!!) out to the plane.
Someone from Air Asia had the idea of organising a second queue for people with children + over 50s. This queue would board first. Ok.... we were eligible so decided to get into that queue - we ended up a little further back, but still near thefront.
When the time came to go out, people started pushing and once outside, people started running to the plane and up the steps.
We got on the plane only to find that those ahead of us (not all that many) had used coats and bags to 'reserve' seats for their friends coming behind.
Worse, the second queue had left the terminal and were now entering the plane from the rear door. We were about to be caught in No Man's Land without seats. NO WAY JOSE! I just moved toward a seat and when the owner of the coats protested, I just said "Sorry, no reserving of seats on this aircraft"

2. You have to pay for food and drinks. Food is very basic........... ham and processed cheese sandwich, very small serve of steamed rice with a little bit of chicken or cup noodles (!!!) and chocolate bars. Drinks were tea, coffee (maybe Milo) water and I think some soft drink.
We all know we don't fly just for the food, but I'd prefer to pay more and get something half decent - esp seeing we'd been on the go since noon to catch this 4pm flight and wouldn't get to our hotel in KL till after midnight.

3. There is NO inflight entertainment - maybe not a problem for short flights, but a problem on anything beyond 2 hours I'd say. There were lots of teenagers and kids on our flight and they got bored pretty quickly - stood up on their seats and started yelling out to their friends in other seats.

Cabin crew didn't do anything.

I'd check out how they're organising their flights to and from Oz. I wouln't fancy a long flight with no entertainment and that awful food.

My husband refuses point blank to fly with them again for anything other than a short flight and only if he has no alternative.
