Default Back again! - seeking something different

We have just returned after 16 funfilled days (Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Phuket, Phi-Phi and Koh Samui). Learnt today that I've won a trip for 2 through work (5 days all expenses paid in Phuket, staying at the SheratonLaguna).

We are very keen to extend (either end of the trip for 3-5 days) and experience a new destination, perhaps Koh Lanta or one of the many islands in the gulf.

Would love to receive feedback regarding features, accommodation and transport (from Phuket)

Cheers - Leo

Lucky you! Congratulations. 3-5 days extension isn't that long though, so it would probably need to be somewhere easily accessible from Phuket. You mention both Lanta and the (many?) Gulf islands. The weather patterns aren't the same on the Andaman and the Gulf side so knowing WHEN you're going would help.

Hi Fio,

The trip is scheduled for the end of July/early August (we are contemplating an extension at either end) - open to suggestions, but looking for a place where we can chill ot for a few days. Looked at Railay Beach in Krabi on the net - has some appeal)

Any suggestions are appreciated

Leo

Again-lucky you. July is not good weather in Lanta. Across to the east @ Ko Samui/Ko phangan is a better option. Flights into samui are expensive because of the one airline monopoly but depending on budget it's possible for a 4 day break and the weather will be better than on the west coast.

Normally I'd suggest the Gulf side at that time of year too...better chance of good weather. Somewhere like this on Ko Tao for example.
Well I'm trying upload a pic of the Jansom resort directly from my computer onto this thread but it's not happening as usual Admin!

Back to your question before the time limit expires...
Unfortunately you're pretty limited timewise so maybe krabi would be best. I'd stay in Ao Nang rather than Railey itself, even if ao Nang does remind me of an English seaside town a bit...promenade and c.r.a.p beach. It only takes 10mins to get to Railey by longtail and it's a pretty small place, takes less than 15 mins to stroll round everywhere. Ao Nang has better value accommodation and more choice when it comes to restaurants etc. Railey has one nice beach and a lot of longtails but nice karsts.

Default Trying that pic again

Using firefox but this place is very slow and laborious even to log in for some reason....might be my wifi or the wee red ants in my laptop eating the innards I suppose ... well 10 mins later still nothing happening even though I tried again with a resized pic in case the automatic resizing doesn't happen if you download onto posts. Guess I'll have to put it in the pics upstairs won't I ??? (If I can get that to work without being logged out) Good job we're so devoted to you eh Mark!
