Bali Palm Koh Phangan --> Krabi Concerns

I've booked 3 nights at the Mai Pen Rai Bungalows at Had Sadet and booked the next couple of nights in Krabi.

Initially I was hoping to take a ferry to Surat Thani then bus to Krabi, but after reading that this can take a long time, I was thinking of flying. My only concern is time. The only flight available leaves Samui at 12:30. I've also been told that where I am staying at Had Sadet they supply a 4x4 for transport to and from the ferry. So, I'm worried that I won't be able to get to the ferry, then get across to Koh Samui in time for a 12:30 flight.

Can anyone help here? Would I be cutting it too fine.

I think your only option is to get the 7am ferry from Tongsala, the main ferry port and town in Phangan.

Lompraha fast ferries takes about 20-25 mins to get to Mae nam pier on samui then 15 mins or so to the airport.

Sadet is at least 20km from tongsala so you would have to be up pretty early to make it on time.

Haad rin Queen doesnt leave until 9.30 and takes a lot longer to get back to samui.

ferry timetables from phangan to Samui are:

Lomprayha 7.00 11.00 1600 and 17.30 20 mins

seatran 11.00 and 16.30 20+ mins

Haad Rin Queen 9.30 11.40 14,30 and17.30 50 mins

Songserm 7.00 45 mins

The ferries usualy leave on time but at that early hour not many Thais are on time!

Lompraha ticket will include bus trip to airport but you will have to wait for it to fill up and not everyone is in any sort of hurry to get of the ferry and loaded in the bus, plus stop offs on the way!

If you have been to Phangan before then you will understand that its not really a "tiny island" and seems even bigger when traveling on some roads.

If you can I would go back to samui the day before on the late ferry then you can relax and have a swim after breakfast and get to the airport in plenty of time.

The flights in and out of samui dont seem to go hand in hand with the ferries to Phangan, this may be done on purpose so that people dont just go to phangan and not bother with samui?

Hope this helps!

Dont worry too much though as all hotel/resorts will arange your trip back to the airport in time for your flight!

They dont charge anymore than the going rate for ferry tickets.

make sure you book it the day you check in and they will know the best option as they are doing it all the time day in day out.

Just looked up the bus timetable from Samui to Krabi and they have a bus that leaves Samui at 12.30 and last one at 13.30.

Travel time Samui to Krabi 5+ hours 400 baht, add 250 from Phangan 650baht.

Air con coach from Samui to Suratahni then transfer to minibus at Surathani to krabi.

I would do it this way.

There is no chance of getting on the wrong bus as you will be given a coloured sticker at Phangan pier which shows your destination and you will be shown to your bus at the transfer places in Samui and Suratahni. They check people are on the right bus many times.

There will be people going to BKK and Phuket from phangan on the same ferries and coach to Surathani where you split to different busses at a food stop.We did this in June but went by train to BKK after the food stop in Suratahni.
