Default Visas Again

Hi to all! let me just say how impressed i am about all the knowledge of thailand that you all have!

I am an australian resident travelling to thailand for the 1st time, and am planning to stay for more than 30 days, approx 37 days, and I am confused about what visa to get and if i have to get it before I go. Also how much thai baht i need to pay for it? I am planning to fly into phuket, got to chaing mai for 2.5 wks, down to krabi, then back to phuket.

I'm a novice who wants to get everything right!

Thanks to all who comment!

To me you may have two options. The first - and safest - would be to apply for a 60 or 90 days visa at the Thai Embassy or Thai Consulate in your home country before leaving! I don't know about the price for this in Australia.

The other option would be to contact the Thai Immigration Office, say in Phuket, about one week before your 30 days arrival visa is running out and apply for a visa extension - and I don't know about the price for that either, but probably about 2000 Baht.

Very easy to get at any Thai embassy in Ausralia usualy 1-2 day wait.

I think its called a "Non Immigrant Visa" and lasts for 90 days which is extendable in Thailand for a short period and a price.

I will email one of my friends in thailand and find out the cost in AU dollars.

I only ever do Visa on arrival myself but one friend who comes back every 3 months does his visa without any trouble, next day turn around at the Perth Thai embassy.

HI, A tourist or holiday visa should cost you $60 in australia at the thai embassy and should only take a few days and it allows you to stay up to 60 days.

Hi there, You need a tourist visa before you leave Australia and it will cost you $45. It is usually ready in 2 days. Its quicker and cheaper to do this through the Thai Consulate in your state.

Ring them first and get the forms emailed to you etc.

You can also do it through the travel agents but it takes longer and will cost more.

A normal visa will be called 'tourist visa' and not 'non-immigrant'.

The visa exemption as suggested by Flebo might work (it is not a visa BTW but a visa exempt entry). But: your airline may refuse you boarding since you are officially not allowed to enter Thailand without visa if you stay over 30 days. Before you go for this option, check with your airline first.
