Default Thailand traveling first timer

Hello fellow travelers!

I am planning a trip to Thailand in November of this year. I want to hit bangkok and pattaya then hopefully Phuket and patong (about a 10 day trip). I know it's the Festival of Lights so I am excite for that. However a few things do worry me.

- is the dollar exchange still good? I want to bring at least 1500 (about 1000 for flight and hotels and 500 for fun). I'll probably end up bringing more. Just trying to get a realistic opinion on how much ill need.

- any cheap good hotels in the red light districts in bangkok and pattaya?

- where is the best place to celebrate the festival of lights?

- what scams do I need to look out for?

- I heard the excitement of the bars and clubs in Bangkok and pattaya have lost their... Umm... Excitement? Is that true?

Any advice would be great. Right now I am just getting my funds together and ducks in a row before I buy my flight and hotel to bangkok.

Thank you!

Depends what type of fun you are talking about, 50 USD a day is not going to allow you to have much fun if you are talking about bars and bar girls.
Its enough to do a bit of sight seeing on the cheap
No one can quote you accurate exchange rates for November but the Bangkok post web site has current Siam Commercial Bank exchange rates for most currencies

For red light visits including some fun, count on about 100 USD per day. And no, they have not lost their attractiveness.

The aforementioned SCB rates you'll find here.

Default Pattaya, BKK & Patong

Monger: you'll get more detailed replies on a monger forum. Go have a look at Pattaya Addicts, lots of monger guys who live in Pattaya and will give you info. There are also forums for BKK & Phuket.

Exchange rates vary wildly from day to day. USD was around 34 THB last time I looked, AUD has dropped considerably recently and is around 25 THB.

Way too many scams to talk about here but just use your common sense, if it's too good to be true then it probably is, watch out for street walker prostitutes and ladyboys.
