Default Guesthouses on side of Bangkok close to airport

Hi there

We arrive about 9pm from Krabi and fly home the next lunchtime and as it's our last night in Thailand we might want to have a couple of drinks, have a nice meal and soak up the city etc before we leave. Can anyone please recommend any good budget hotels on the right side of Bangkok for the airport where we won't be spending all night / the next morning in a taxi? Is the Sukhumvit area a good bet?

We've stayed near KSR previously and don’t want to head that far into town, but would like to be near some shops, bars and restaurants.

Many thanks

I generally stay either around the Silom rd or Riverside areas and on 3recent trips have never spent any more than 45 minutes and 350 baht on a taxi, even in the mid morning peak. Once you get on the toll road it is pretty clear sailing. Most of the areas around the airport are pretty suburban and without local knowledge it would be hard to find your way around. The Sukhumvit area would be great but it is not exactly "near"the airport.

Majestic Suites is really well located. A short walk to Nana plaza for bars and heaps of restaraunts and it is pretty close to the expressway exit. Should be under 1500baht for their cheaper rooms.

Another option is have a night at Pattaya, going to the airport from Bkk or going there from Pattaya is much the same timewise, though it does cost more for the taxi fare from Pattaya. But if you want to have a good night on the town before going home then Pattaya has a lot to offer. You can have a nice seafood dinner in a seaside restaurant, then hit the Walking St bars for a rave up, prices are cheaper in Pattaya than BKK, so what you'll spend extra on taxis you'll make up on accommodation & drinks.
