Not sure andy - we arrived in Bangkok late on Tuesday night and went straight to hotel so haven't had a chance to check things out.
I plan to go out on Wednesday and will post info here afterwards.

Nobody can answer these questions, nobody from the gov' nor any journalists can say what will happen next. However, it does appear that the current situation will not just stop and go away, it's too far advanced for that, so the indications are that the situation will get worse, and probably end with another coup.
However, these things happen fairly regularly in Thailand and for most people, locals & tourists, life goes on as usual. As long as tourists keep well away for the hot spots and demonstrations, and avoid voicing any opinions, you'll be OK. The main areas for concern with tourists are airports or transportation troubles: having flights cancelled or trains/buses disrupted. And nobody can predict that happening. Should you worry or cancel? Depends. If you are aged or have very young children then I'd be a bit concerned about the effects of inconvenience, like being stranded at an airport for a couple of days. I guess this is a case of going with your instincts. If you feel very worried and even scared then cancel your plans, you don't need stress on your holidays. If on the other hand you feel "no wuckin' furries mate" then go for it.

Thailand in deeply divided and the political problems certainly won't be solved any time soon, they are likely to get worse tomorrow when a new prime-minister is voted in. Will it cause any problems for your trip?
Probably not in the slightest. I live here and work in Bangkok almost every weekday and there has not been the slightest sign of anything different. It is very much life as usual. The political problems tend to stay in the political areas which are quite separate from the main tourist or commercial areas. The problems are between the Thai people and as long as you stay away from large demonstrations and don't go shouting opinions where they aren't asked for I'm sure you will have no problems at all. There may be some disruptions to transport due to strikes but there will be no danger.

It could really get very nasty. Now that Samak has been dumped it looks as if Somchai Wongsawat will become the next Thai prime minister.
Somchai is the favorite choice of his brother-in-law Thaksin Shinawatra, who apparantly still controls Thai politics, so Somchai will merely be a puppet with bro-in-law pulling the strings from London.
The PAD will take offence at having someone so close to Thaksin installed as PM, and will resume their efforts to bring down the PPP for good.
Thaksin and his PPP (former TRT party) will have to smash the PAD in order to survive as a political force.
Thailand may well be on the brink of the most dangerous period it has seen for several decades.
