| | Thailand alone(maybe) soon - appreciate some help Hi,
my friend and i have been planning an aprx 3 week long trip to thailand around the end of july, maybe later, i have saved up enough money to go and spend, but my friend is not sure he will be able to, i REALLY want to go to thailand, but to be honest am quite concerned about going alone, not that i am scared, but i would prefere having a person there with me, so if anyone wants to come you are of course welcome, im male,English, 19, have never been to thailand before, and look forward to doing things lyk the moon party, maybe some bungie/adrenaline type things, going to the bars, i drink, and just about anything else you might suggest that sounds cool, anyway, i kno i may wel have to go alone, so any tips would be really appreciated
thank you ! |

| | I think that to meet people you need to choose your area and accommodation well - while there are tourists all over the place, a good starting point would be the popular areas like Sukhumvit and Silom - not only a lot of bars and pubs where you could meet people and chat over a few drinks, but generally a lot of entertainment in those areas.
Perhaps a better chance of meeting people your own age in accomm. where there are likely to be a lot of younger people - guest houses, lower priced accomm. rather than upmarket hotels or apartments which tend to atract couples, older travellers, business travellers and families.
That's been my experience anyway.
Some people might suggest Khao San Rd. which is commonly known as the backpacker area of Bangkok - lots of guesthouses and cheaper accomm. and also the starting point for a lot of backpacker tours. This would be one way of meeting up with people with similar interests.
On one of my first trips to Thailand I was alone and in a fairly isolated beach resort - no problem for me as I needed a bit of peace and quiet, but the place was full of older couples, some families and tour groups of middle-aged people from Norway, Sweden and other parts of Europe as is often the case at larger or mid-range hotels in Thailand's beach areas. Some of these people invited me to join them for dinner or drinks when they saw me sitting alone.
But this type of place wouldn't suit you at all - too quiet.
Stick with the low - mid priced places in popular, busy areas and I think you'll meet more people to do things with or travel with. |

| | He may need a bigger budget than he thinks! lol.
mere 500 baht a day, plus meals, and he has a cute companion for the trip, a translator, and save that much on better and cheaper restaurants she picks. also, no need to drink in bars, just hang out on balcony of hotel, pool, and enjoy great vacation.
as mentioned, companionship and fun |

Some people are actually on holidays and the "Cute Companions" know all about it! A few weeks ago it cost more than 500bht for a couple of beers on Samui! I too prefer 7-11 prices but when on holiday why stick to one dish when you can have the degastation?lol

| | A 19 year old who plays his cards right won't need to reach for the wallet much. Those bargals are tired of old men with red faces and big wobbly bellies, they go ga-ga over a fresh faced young stud. Yep, play the cards right and you'll be getting all sorts of freebies. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
