Plenty to see and do in BKK, it's one of the most fascinating cities in the world. I suggest get a good guidebook like LP and read the BKK section, whatever you want - temples or naked women - BKK has it in spades.
Plenty to do in Phuket too, beaches, shopping, sightseeing. Again a good guide book will tell you everything you need to know.
Before this forum can give you ideas for accommodation you need to tell a bit more - your budget, tastes, what you want to see & do.

Flying into Phuket I would recommend you to do by Air Asia or Nok Air (google for their respective websites) as they are by far the cheapest but you have to pay upfront by credit card.

Bangkok for 2 days would be the minimum yes, see the Grand Palace, Klongs and some of the nightlife.
