Default Hotels in Chiang Mai

Hi This is my first time on this forum. I am planning on going to Chiang Mai in October. Can anyone recommend some good, mid priced accommodation. I will be travelling with my mother, who is in her seventies, and she can't cope with stairs.

Also, what is the weather like at that time of year? I'm sure I'll think of lots more questions between now and then. Thanks.

Can't recommend any names but when I was in CM last, about 2 years ago, I stayed in a couple of upmarket guesthouses inside the old city walls. These places were easy to locate and cost about 800TB for AC, cable TV, fridge, hot water, real nice rooms, clean, comfortable, central location, lots of eating & shopping all around, far better value than staying at the big hotels.
Oct' is still low season, so there should be plenty of vacancies. I believe the rains have passed by Oct'. I was there in August and it was flooded, so Oct should be OK.

Default Chiang Mai

In 2006 we stayed at 3 Sis Bed & Breakfast, Soi 8 accross from Wat Cheidi Luang in the inner moat area. Great place, we will be staying there in Sept 08. If you do a search for the 3 Sis I believe they have extend to include the place next door.
Cheers

If you are looking for a bigger sized hotel you can try the Chiang Mai Plaza which is centrally located and not too expensive. Rooms are not impressive but clean and you have all the conveniences of a big hotel.

The D2 hotel might be worth a look as well.

Default we have always used the royal princess

and like it. Many people report that it need some refurbishing, but we seem to have always been upgraded to a deluxe room (for no reason) and they seem fine, although short on drawers space. Wardrobe is quite big though, so we manage! It is right in the middle of the night market, so easy to visit this for short periods if you like.

We took a cooking class recently, and a couple in the class were staying at Baan Orapin and really raved about it. On trip advisor this comes out tops for B&B in CM, so might be worth a look.

A general point, it will be more fun to stay close to the city itself, eg inside the walls or in the night market rather than a more remote location. We found the empress too far away for our taste, for example.

Have a look at this guesthouse - Baan Orapin - Boutique Bed & Breakfast, Chiang Mai accommodation

While I have not stayed here myself friends have and rave about it. It gets very good reviews on other forums. I am not sure if there are stairs to climb and if so this may be a problem. Not by the night market but easy walkable.

Default Great guest house

I would recommend Smile House, it's very close to the moat, it is a guest house and not a hotel, but there is a lovely little pool and all the aircon rooms are on the ground floor, no bugs and very clean and nice, beside the pool there is also a nice little area with couches and chairs to relax.
