Default Mobile Phones

My son has asked me to check out buying him a mobile phone when I am in Bangkok, can some one please give me some advice if this is a good idea, I have heard that they have a lot of fakes in Bangkok and that you have to be careful where you buy a phone, any advice would be much appreciated.

PS I have used the Bali travel forum extensively over the many times I have been there and am hoping this forum will provide me with the same excellent information as I have never been to Thailand before.

No worry about fakes, the mobiles are so cheap it's not worth faking them. The only pitfall is 2nd hand mobiles. Thais drop them often so buying 2nd hand is stupid. The cheapest basic Nokia model cost about 950THB, these are not locked so you can use them back home no probs.
No need to worry where you buy one, just look in the shops at MBK or Panthip or Tuk Com or a zillion other places around Thailand.

You get a better range of handsets in Thailand than Australia, espesialy those girly colours ,pink perl ect.

They sell some brands that I have never heard of but they work great, just have chinese as well as English key pads and really cheap!

Most top brands are a lot cheaper to buy in Thailand.

Chargers have the Thai plug but not a problem ,we by an adaptor plug from Thai to Australian plug for a couple of Baht.

We bought 3 phones last year from the MBK centre, they were the latest Nokia and Samsung phone which has only just been released here and we paid around half the price. No problems with any of them.

Default mobiles at MBK

they have a fantastic selection. I got an ultra slim, latest model Samsung for 2/3rds price in Australia plus extras before it was even released here.

Lightbulb I also want to know.....

Hi all - I understand that these answers are mainly for Bangkok but can anyone advise of where in Phuket/Patong I could also buy mobiles from.

I am guessing that maybe the new Junceylon will have them or will I have to go into Phuket Town to somewhere like Robinsons.

I'm also interested in obtaing any pricing for phone that anyone can help with.

Thanks heaps - this forum "rocks"
