Default I've been preparing to go to thailand June-August then I found out about the weather!

Hiya ppl,

So as I said I've been preparing for the trip, nothing major just bought a book and a map with clear intention of going to Phuket for 1 month to do muay thai:

Then see where else the country takes me for the remaining time..

The problem is I read in my guide book that the period stated is the wettest time of the year.. rain isn't my thing, I like the sun. My point? Is it really so bad at that time of year? If so I guess I'll have to leave it m'fraid seeing as I'm a student and that's my only time off in the year.

Many thanks.

July and August is a busy time in Phuket I think.

I go to Thailand quite often and always panic about the rain when booking!

Every time we seem to book it is rainy season, but you know we have never had much rain in Thailand whenever we have been!

We chose Samui and Phangan this time because of the weather but it is just as unpredictable as the rest!

I wouldnt put of my trip because of weather forcasts, just follow the sun.

Try Patong Boxing club if its still there,I trained for 2 weeks there and the owner "Phelom" i think he's name was ,was a great guy.

may not be there anymore as it was 10 years ago!

Default Weather in Thailand Oct 17 - Nov 7

Hey there, I must admit I'll be worrying about the same thing. But from past experience it seems to rain at night and then clear the next day. Mind you I've never been to Phuket only Pattaya, Hua Hin and Bangkok.

Also, does it matter when you are in Thailand and holidays?

I wouldn't let the seasons put me off a holiday to Thailand, even the heavy monsoon downpours have appeal. It's fun sitting in a bar or on the balcony of your bungalow as the rain pours down and the sky erupts with tropical storms. And as you'll be doing mauy thai that is mainly indoors too, so what's it matter?

I had some bad rain(well the worst) in Pattaya in 2006 after Chang and Samet! But you are right ,stay in that area as it has the least rain fall in Thailand.

I think your right, there is an attraction to the monsoon as well.. but if it's just raining 90-100% of the time then it will just make things like going to the beach and the nightlife impossible..

The beach yes, that's definetely spoilt by the monsoon rains but nightlife rocks on, perhaps not in the outdoor & beachside bars, but inside the AC bars, pubs, restaurants it's business as usual.

We go to Thailand several times a year and we're always there for awhile in July-August.
At that time Bangkok can be overcast during the day and maybe with some rain (which doesn't last long). Temperatures are still warm.

We were in Phuket a few years ago mid-August and although there had been rain up till the day we arrived, we didn't see any rain at all in ten days (none at night either). It was hot and sunny the whole time - good weather for beach or pool.
Maybe we were just lucky or maybe it was because it was at the end of August rather than the start.

Thanks for the help people. Not quite sure what's happening now. I really want to go to Thailand, you see it's just the weather that's put me off a bit and I know the only chance I'll have to go earlier in the year will be a minumum of 2 years away.. I'll put some thought into it.

One other thing, does anyone know of a good fitness/muay thai training place they'd recommend? thx

Patong Boxing club! Muay Thai lessons /training pay per session and you get to train the kids for free and have lunch with them if you want

Its hard in the humidity and gear is basic but can pick up some great tips.
