I have never had any shots for Thailand!

The first time I went I took malaria medication but stopped as it made me really ill.

Things may have changed but i was supposed to take the meds two weeks before,during and two weeks after.

I may be wrong by not getting shots but I never visit remote areas and the mosquitoes in Australia are far worse than any i have seen in Thailand.

I am just vigilant with my personal hygiene when eating/drinking ect as hand to mouth can cause some pretty bad stomach virus's.

I use a fast drying antibacterial hand gel and medi swabs for wiping cutlery, bit over the top for some but if you have ever had some of the stomach virus/flu's in that humidity then you dont want it again.

Thailand does not require you to get any vaccinations.... the only ones recommended are tetanus, Hep A (which helps with the stomach virus) and Hep B, which since you're traveling with your girlfriend shouldn't be a problem. There are others you can get, but just wear bug spray, stay covered and don't drink the water or even brush your teeth with it. If you plan on going up North, you may want to consider other vaccinations - but if you're in nyc, your doctor should be able to give you these shots and other information... hope this helps

I always brush the teeth and rinse mouth with tapwater, my understanding is that the tapwater is not contaminated or anything with just heavy with minerals & salts that will build up over time.
But, I've been in Thailand so long that my system has adjusted to here, when I go to Aust for a holiday I always go through all sorts of unpleasant things until my body re-adjusts to the water & change of diet. Last trip to Perth in April was terrible, it was great to get back to Thailand and quickly settle down to normal again.

Bobmac you have to use boiled water when you get back to Perth!

Even when we only go away for 2 weeks we cant use the water here for a few days,I think its the amount of fluoride and excessive amounts of chlorine they put in the tap water here!

At least every 3rd day my shower water smells like a swimming pool.

As for the recommended shots, I rather not take any risks and try to get them all, also here in the US, a shot against Yellow Fever is a must, due to the fact that a certificate of immunization is required when you enter back to the US after visiting certain countries, Thailand included.

So if I already must take that one, I might as well get the other ones, plus most last for years so when i decide to travel to other places il already have the shots.

OK, I kinda twigged is was due to the water. So drink boiled or bottled water for a few days first.

Hey there... I don't think you're correct. I looked into it and an american citizen does NOT need the yellow fever vaccination to re-enter the US from any country. It is however a requirement for entry into certain parts of South America and Africa.

Thailand is not in the yellow fever endemic zone.

However, I'm not saying don't get it; just don't want you to be misinformed.

Thanks for the info, I think you are right about the Yellow Fever, I must have misunderstood when I was reading.

So I am buying tickets, June 23-July 23, I am wondering how is the weather there now?

Is anyone on this board is in Thailnad now? Hows the weather, I checked it on-line and it looks like it rained alot this past weeks.

In you opinion, what are the chances there will be good conditions in Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Bangkok and Chaing Mai (the main places i plan to visit)?
