Default Im so confused now!

Hi everyone,

Im trying to learn about the best resort for us to stay at Koh Samui.

One minite i hear one beach is best and then someone says another beach is the better??

We are looking for a beach similar to Kata/Kata Noi (phuket), quietish beautiful sea and sand, but with some bars and resturants close by and easy access to livelier bars/restuarnts should we want a bit more of a night out.

Can anyone help please? ive just got my hubby to agree to samui as hes stuck on phuket every year, and if i dont get my research done i think he may change his mind!!!

we are thinking of going anytime around June thru September.

Thanks for your help

Default From what I've read ...

I'll hazard a guess and say this one is closest to your requirements.

Not that I've ever been there and Mark says it ain't great for swimming. Jaimie will know I expect. Just testing to see if I can get a photo to come up in a post. Bet it doesn't work, all this new hi tech stuff takes a bit of grappling with so I might have to edit.

Yeah the link works but no pic! I tried clicking on the postcard thing and putting the URL in there when I edited but that doesn't work either...not sure what you're supposed to do!

Well as I said, Bophut is the closest to what you want on Samui AFAIK. But as I said, that's just from what I've read on forums like this...maybe there's a better one.

Thailand Sun I would go with

Chaweng Beach but just up and out of the main drag a bit. Somewhere like Poppies or around that area. You can just about walk to the main drag without too much sweat if it is not midday. I used to swear by Rockys just north of Lamai proper, but it has gone upmarket / more spendy since I stayed there and you do need transport to take you to other eateries and shopping. But the location, especially for kids to play in the sea is superb.

Gee Laura I dunno about Bophut- its really ,really shallow a lot of the time off the beach and the sand has that slightly muddy estuary feel to it between the toes...not much around and a bike or taxi to anything...the places looked pretty cheap but 'tired 'to me.However as a bit of an old hippy it would appeal for a day or 2 I guess to me.
What about the islands off the coast in the Gulf? I have been to Koh Nang Yuan ,diving place but truly relaxing for non divers ,you won't believe the scenery of the eco resort. Some daytripper boats but if you have a place up on the hill...breathtaking!!think thats the spelling ,utterly beautiful but ordinary food and staff a bit ho hum about the whole tourist thing.PM me for photos if you like.

The area Mark mentions is the southern end of Chaweng. It`s the area I always stay.It has the best all round beach conditions IMO, has some nice eating & entertainment options in the general area,it`s quieter than main Chaweng but still only a 20 min walk or a 5 min songtaew ride into the main part of Chaweng.

If you want the clearest water & whitest/fine sand then you need Chaweng Beach,Lamai or Chaweng Noi,the latter is a nice quiet spot.

The other beaches are ok but the water tends not to be as clear & the sand more coarse.

Hope this helps & anything else please ask

Jamie

I would go along with Jamie on this. Laura look on Sawadee.

We are here at the moment and it has only just stopped raining but IMO it wins Phuket hands down.

Food fab and beach at night magical.

Look at the central.

what is your budget per night?

There is one called the Banana fan sea that has had good reviews and looks lovely.

BTW
Jamie have raised a glass to you
