Your resort is not actually on Phuket, it is on the mainland about 1 hour North, in a region called Khao Lak. This area was hardest hit by the Tsunami, so most of the resorts are new or have been rebuilt. It is a beautiful area from all reports (I have not stayed there) that would be suitable if you wanted a quiet, relaxing holiday. Most of the area's around the more established resorts have local communities with local bars and restaraunts but very little nightlife. It is a good area to access beautiful inland, coastal and marine national parks and some of the best dive and snorkelling locations can be easily accessed from there.
