| | Its decided! Hi everyone,
Its decided, we are deffo going to try Koh Samui, hoping to get either a package or seperate flight and hotel leaving on 4/5 sept.
Can anyone recommend where I can try to get cheapish packages or cheap flight and cheap hotel please. We need to keep our budget as low as poss as we have already had our "big" thai holiday this year.
Can anyone also tell me of companies to "keep away" from too please.
We have had a price from a local travel agency by where we live, for the chaba Cabana hotel for just over £900 flying with Ethiad. We feel a bit unsure about this hotel?
Thanks for helping, im off to work now but will check back in later this evening.

| | Hi Laura,
The Chaba Cabana is a nice resort but I much prefer the beach on the southern part of Chaweng and the CC is near the northern extremity of the beach where it gets quite rocky and there is a bit of a reef so it isn't as good for swimming. There is a great interactive map of Samui on sawadee.com that will show you the exact location of the resorts. The south and even down as far as Chaweng Noi will give you a better location, more like Kata Beach which you are familiar with.

| | Hi Laura,
THe Aloha is on Lamai beach which is about a 20 min drive from Chaweng. Lamai is less developed but seems pleasant enough but I have never stayed in Lamai so I dont know it as intimately as I do Chaweng. On the surface, I dont think the beach looked as nice as Chaweng but it was still OK. We walked through the Aloha to get to the beach and it looked like a reasonable place, similar to the Kata beach Resort, but a little bit older and tired.

| | Hi Laura,
IMHO Chaweng beach, particularly the southern end, is a superior beach. Lamai is a bit more laid back than Chaweng, but I found the middle aged man-young Thai girl thing to be far more prevalent and open in Lamai. To each his own, but I thought the scene was a little less tasteful than what I prefer and being a smaller beach, it was harder to get away from than in Chaweng.

| | Hi Laura
We had 5 nights on Samui this time last year. We stayed at the Baan Chaweng Beach resort (it is a boutiquish style resort, reasonably intimate and off the main thoroughfare but easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and bars).
Prices were affordable, central location, friendly/helpful staff, great beach, plenty of private lounges, beachside restaurant, rooms were fantastic with private verandah, pool was on the smallish side but never crowded.
If we returned to Samui we would definitely stay at Baan Chaweng again
