Default Bangkok Airlines

Just got my ticket for Phuket to Samui and have noticed it is a twin prop ATR72 aircraft.I know this is a silly Question but has anybody flown in one of these planes and what they are like to fly in?

I have been flying since 1973 and have never flown in a prop plane only a jet!

I am sure plenty have flowmn in them as they are a regular fron Samui to BKk as well.

The plane ride will be fine. I have flown with Bangkok Airways in these planes often and find them just as stable as jets, just slower. The good news is that they are actually safer than jets as they can glide even if both props fail. Unfortunately this will not help a great deal if you are over water. I fly from Mildura to Melbourne at least once a month in much smaller twin prop planes and find them to be reasonably comfortable unless the weather is bad.

Thanks for that! Just something We have never done before,if we decide to fly from Samui instead of the night train we will have to do it again anyway.

I was terrified when I found out we had to fly from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap in same plane. Had visions of some antique aircraft etc.

Boy was I surprised, the plane was great and the best landings and take offs I have ever had. (I still hate flying though!!)
Heres a pic of our plane haha

It certainly is a bit of a shcok the first time you see one, the only slight downside is that it's a tight fit when you're in there so not too much hand luggage is a good idea.

The airport at Samui is well worth the plane journey!!
