Brown Brothers is an old established winery in Northern Victoria, around the Millawa area. They were renowned originally for their fortified wines, but over the past 40 years or so have developed a reputation for good quality table wines.

The varieties from Browns generally tend to be of the sweeter variety, such as reisling in the whites, however, a number of their reds are absolutely superb. Their durif is magnificent, the downside being that the durif takes around 7 years cellaring to bring it to its peak.

The one that I drink if i can get it is a reserve shiraz deffo not sweet I hate anything sweet either to eat or drink.
If I did drink wine with Thai food it would be something crisp and dry like pinot grigio, even an italian frascati.
Have tried Thai wine and personally I would rather lick my own armpit.
Speaking of wine we had freind round last night..........just the 12 of them ! and we demolished a fair amount of rosemount shiraz. My head is thumping this morning.

I also dislike sweet wine, I like a chilled dry wine, don't go for this room temp' jazz. I've found some of the dry whites are nice with Thai-style seafood. Prefer a red if I'm just having a drink. Agree in general about Thai wines, however, give the Monsoon Valley a try next trip, it's pretty good, but you can get an Aussie wine for the same price, so I doubt if it'll sell well.

For a low cost alternative try the Banrock Station crimson cabernet. Under $8 bucks a bottle and great with Thai food. If any of you guys live near Adelaide, make a trip to the winery in the beautiful "Riverland " region. It is absolutely stunning, a real hidden gem.

We took BobMacs advice, but took 2 x 4 litre casks and had no problems, we drank one and a half and gave the rest away to a couple of aussie women in our hotel.

But alcohol is really pretty reasonable now, 20 years ago the only aussie wine we saw was 'Spritzig Rose' which sold in Perth for about $6 a bottle but cost $25 in bangkok. Beer is cheap.

Sure, wine prices have come down a lot in recent years, still more exensive than Oz but bearable now. And beer is cheap, it wasn't that long ago beer here was more expensive than Oz, but you can find Tiger beer on special at 20Bt a can in the 7-11s, Chang Draft for 39Bt a big bott' is also worthwhile.

20B a can? Way too expensive for me...Archa is only 16B in 7/11s and cheaper at Chinese wholesalers of course.

Supermarket prices are cheaper than 7/11s too but they hardly ever let you buy booze in supermarkets nowadays.... those stupid rules Thaksin introduced a couple of years or so ago... you can't buy normal quantities of alcohol in big supermarkets except at lunchtime and after 5pm. It's most inconvenient because I don't always need a whole crate of vodka at 3 in the afternoon.

Brown Brothers. Morris wines ,Gherigs (as in Fraser Gherig the VFL footballer)are all made in and around Rutherglen in the North East about 270kms from Melbourne. Every year we have the winery walkabout where you get to visit all the wineries and taste test all weekend.
Unfortunately wasted on me....I don't like wine.
