Default Nice Cheap Guesthouses?

Hi,

I'm heading to Thailand this summer for a month and looking for accomodation in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I'm travelling alone and female (Yes this may be stupid but I'm big enough and ugly enough to look after myself so no lectures please) I want places that are clean and comfortable but cheap, there's so many it'd be nice to get some guidance.

Thanks in advance for any help!

J

Too many to list but sure sombody will recomend some to you as I am now old enough to want the comfort of hotels.

Lots of single females travel Thailand so its not stupid and you will meet others travelling alone anyway.

Nothing to worry about, the Thai government will soon be issueing all female tourists with whistles to blow when they get into danger. It's true, in the Bangkok Post.

In Bangkok you probably want to look at Khao San Road, there's something for every budget and you'll also meet up with other travellers there. Personally I don't like KSR but it's very popular. You'll have no trouble locating a guesthouse as there are so many of them. Likewise in Chiang Mai's old city, within the city walls. I stayed there last about 2 years ago and there were so many guesthouses to choose from, and again to suit all budgets. We found a real nice place with AC, cable TV, good restaurants next door. Once you get into the old city walls it's very easy to find accommodation.

I havnt been to KSR since the 90's,they have some cheap accomodation there but most of it is well over priced as you can get a hotel room in the city for the same price!

If I was on my own though I would also stay at KSR its a backpackers mecca in BKK and would find people to travel with no problems.
