| | Phuket Holiday - October 2008 Hello All,
I know it's miles away, but I can't stop thinking about our holiday booked for in October. Just wondering can any of you shed any light on prices, weather, places to see etc. |

Where abouts are you staying in Phuket? I havnt been there since the mid 90's also in october!
At first was a bit worried as it was raining when we got there but in 12 nights it only rained for a few min's in the morning other than that it was great weather.
If you are able hire a scooter and try riding up the big hill towards Phuket town, not for the faint hearted, mind you dont think I would do it now.

Cathy | Hi I have just been looking on your website, great job!
Have you been to the Seafood market resturant in Sukamvit?
its the one where they take you around with a shopping trolly to pick up your food then through a checkout to pay for it,sit you at a table with a menu, ask how you would like it cooked from the menu take your trolly away to be cooked by the 10 or so cooks at the front.then you only have to pay for drinks.
You can go as cheap or expensive as you liked as you also buy your vegetables in the supermarket part.
Would be great to add to your BKK seafood guide.

| | As for places to see i suggest you rent a Suzuki for one day at least and have a scout around the island, check out Wat Chalong, Cape Panwa, there's a great viewpoint up on the cliffs past Kata, also have a look around Phuket town, there's some nice old-style architecture to see. As for shopping have a look in Tesco Lotus and compare prices there before buying too much from the street stalls. Also there are daytrips/overnight trips you can make from phuket, probably the most popular are to PP Islands, and James Bond Is. Worth looking into. |

Den | Seafood market restaurant in Sukumvit.
Can you or anyone else confirm the correct name of the place?
EDIT: OK found it myself A great seafood restaurant in Bangkok: Seafood Market and Restaurant
I think this is the place we were taken too by taxi when we were in Bangkok about 15 years ago.
Some one at the hotel suggested it was good so we went, we originally asked about another place but they said they hadn't heard of it, might have been our pronunciation too.
We enjoyed it and the food was great, one of the memories I still have of Bangkok.
Also another place I think was called the Tum Nak Thai, great atmosphere all on jetties over the water with waiters on roller skates, food was great also, I recall the beer was dearer than the food, reputed to seat a couple of thousand diners, I hope this is still there.
We will probably go again this time if it's not raining, leaving Perth 28th March.

| | I remember this seafood restaurant. It used to be right on Sukhumvit road, I remember the large neon lobster up on the roof. However, this restaurant has been gone for a few years now and some other buildings now occupy the site. Anyway, it looks like its relocated to 89 soi 24. As for the other large restaurant where the staff wear roller skates, I read some years ago that this was the biggest restaurant in the world. About 2-3 years ago I tried to find out more about it and was told it had closed down. |

| | The place on Sukumvit sounds about right it had a car park taxi stand along side with the Woks out on the edge of the footpath.
The Tum Nak Thai was out a bit past an industrial area with a lot of what looked like used car yards, Robinsons Dept store was not far away, I remember seeing the building when looking toward the shoreline from where we we seated out on the jetty, seemed like it was a couple of blocks away.
Perhaps this is it ,TUM NAK THAI 131 Ratchadaphisek Road, Tel: 274-6420 or maybe an old listing or relocation, I've absolutely no idea of finding my way around, Need a map and a compass
