Default A new "War on Drugs"

Any forum readers who enjoy a bong or a few reefers whilst on holidays in the LOS should be aware that the new government is reintroducing Thaksin's "War on Drugs" that was responsible for approximately 3,000 executions. An article in today's Bangkok Post states that "cash rewards" will be made available to informers. That means the smiling friendly Thais who sell you some weed or pills at Koh Phangan or Khao San Road, will then dob you in to collect some more dough. If getting stoned is your thing then do it at home, having anything to do with drugs in Thailand is very very dangerous.

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej will chair a meeting on Friday to announce the revival of the war on drugs, according to the Justice Minister. Sompong Amornwiwat underlined the government's intention to crack down on drugs trafficking in Thailand. He explained there will be cash rewards for those able to provide information leading to arrests, but is unable to disclose further details at this point in time.
