Thailand is a big place and the question is a bit vague! For celebrating a 21st birthday I would say crash out on a beach during the day and visit a few bars in the evening.

Which ones depend on where you are going.

You have loads to go at there. Do you want trendy? down to earth, drinking shopping eating, luxury???
Look on trip advisor for Bangkok and there is a menu down the side of things to do.
Happy 21st when it comes

Happy 21st! Just remember Thailand is nothing like Bali just much better!
If you run amuck in Bangkok like some Aussies do in Bali then you will be frowned apon by the locals and maybe arrested.

there is so much to see and do in Bangkok that when you get there you will wonder why you even asked this question.

there are some great bars and clubs, top end low end and sleeze.stay away from the sleeze and you wont get upset but do visit Patpong as its great for both sexes with good markets to boot.

Do not buy or take drugs of any kind in Bangkok,if you get caught buying taking or already taken you will be arrested (Just thought i would slip that in)

You can party in Bangkok like any city in the world but it isnt bali or Kuta so you must show more respect than perhaps some would in Bali.

Have fun.

Den

Cheap shopping! If you are there on a saturday Chatachuk market is a real eye opener and a must for shoppers. I dont know where you are staying in BKK but for really cheap clothing go to the Pratunum area where there is a big market that sells all sorts very cheap clothing,as a ref get dropped of at the Bioke sky hotel and its all around that area, copies and rip offs can be bought there and also on the main road near the Indra Regent hotel which is right near the Bioke.

Do a ping pong/sex show if you have never seen it before and its pretty safe at Patpong road, you will find both men and women at the shows just in for a quick look plus there is a big market there at night, actually there is a big market everywhere in BKK.

If you are with your boyfriend and his brother try to stay away from some of the bars in the Sukamvit area at night or you may end up comming home seperate. You will find out what i mean

how long are you there for?
there is so much to see and do in Bkk that my partner Tracey and I have been going for 17 odd years and still find new things to see and do.

The seafood market resturant is totally amazing if you get a chance to go there I think it is on Sukamvit soi 22?but look it up anyway.

Den.(excuse spelling of roads in BKK)

Well I think the Patpong shows are pretty seedy. The women who perform these acts aren’t the prettiest ones and most of them have obviously born children …stretch marks and C section scars. Thai women are traditionally very modest about their bodies. I can't help wondering how the children of these women feel about answering the question “What does YOUR mummy do for a living?” It’s pure human exploitation and tourists are condoning and perpetuating it by going to see these shows. Furthermore, the Patpong shows are notorious for excessive overcharging and if you query your bill the bouncers can get very aggressive and threatening...be warned.

Be warned also that some of the shows in the back sois around Patpong are very hardcore, particularly those that cater for gay men. Nana and Soi Cowboy (both on Sukhumvit) are like Sunday school outings in comparison to those places.

If you young first timers really want to see some of the “risquée” BKK nightlife then a katoey (ladyboy) stage show might be more fun and entertaining. Angelwitch in Nana Plaza also does a popular floor show which is considerably more erotic than either Patpong or the usual bored-looking girls shuffling around poles.

yes the Sex shows on a whole are very boring and I also dont agree with it but it is in many other cities in the world just not so open as Pattaya and parts of Bangkok.

There is always lots of talk in Australia about "Ping Pong"shows and most will say on your return "Did you see a ping pong show?" And some may think they have missed out if they havent been, but they are boring!

More fun is sitting around a bar and watching drunk western men picking up ladymen and having no idea.

On a whole I find patpong to be quite safe as long as you dont venture down some of the seedier soi's and keep in mind that it is a "Red light"district and just as dangerouse as any other in the world.

Most wouldnt go wandering around Kings cross late at night on their own, same applies to Patpong.

In many open bars in some of Thailands tourist areas you will see women pole dancing topless and in G strings and this would not happen in some other parts of the world, and on a whole are really just there to get men to spend money on drinks at their bar as opposed to the next bar.

Do you honestly believe they have some sense of moral dignity and decency? On any given day I'd reckon at least 50% of Thais are living off the earnings sent home from some female family member. They don't care where the money comes from or how it's earned just as long as it keeps on rolling in.
And don't fall into the trap in thinking they're driven in to it from poverty & starvation, those northern Thai families with all their daughters on the game have "big face" with their wide screen TVs and DVDs, and 2 door fridges.
