In the Yellow Pages! I am sure that is where we got the number from originally. In Phuket Town you can actually hail a cab (real one), so maybe head there by dreaded tuk tuk, or see if your hotel can get you an aircon metered taxi to pick you up. If the real taxis are coming to or from a specific place, the mafia tend(ed) to leave them alone.

Not just Phuket, at Pattaya the songtaew drivers are a bunch of scumbags ripping off farang all day long. Thais pay 10Bt for a songtaew ride anywhere around Pattaya but the few occassions I've used the damn things I've been told 100bt to take me where ever I was heading (maybe just 2 - 3 kilometers away) If you have a ride and pay 10Bt like a Thai you'll get a hassle, some people have been beat up for doing that.

Smile Hi Michelle,

thanks a lot for that. Will email her and see how we go from there. Roughly 60 days to go and still organising things as we are staying and travelling around for 40 days...

When are you heading back?

Cheers

Karin

Hi Karin,

We're going to Phuket in October for a month. We were thinking of going to Vietnam first but because we are staying an extra week this time and because a lot of the hotels we are looking at are not offering the usual "stay 2 nights pay for one offer", I don't think we can afford the side trip. I'm going to wait for Jax to write her holiday tale re: Vietnam, before I definitely decide if we will stretch the budget to include Ho Chi Minh City. Jax seems to like the same hedonistic pastimes as we do!! So Jax, the pressure is on!!

Best Wishes
Michelle

I have always had illusions that I am 18.
Mind you if I were I would be looking at walking or the bus timetable.
