Default 33 sleeps - the final countdown!

Well ... the airport is drawing closer with only 33 sleeps to go!
I have got so much info on this forum - who needs a travel agent??!!
Info on where to shop and eat in Patong and Bankok, info on Phi Phi Island and Phang Nha Bay day trips, info on luggage security and limits on carry-on luggage, info on seeing the Grand Palace, info on Elephant Safaris in Phuket, info on Songkran Festival, and info on methods of money ie. cash v. credit cards v. atm cards v. travellers cheques v. travelex card. AND ALL THIS INFO IN JUST UNDER ONE MONTH - AMAZING!! Ive also discovered there are other "Sleep counters" out there - its not just me!!!

So ... THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED ME WITH MY MANY AND VARIED (AND SOMETIMES SILLY!) QUESTIONS.

Kitty

Oh ... my questions can be very very silly!!!! Like ... "where is the IMHO Department Store?" Being new to chat room lingo, I was unaware that IMHO means "in my humble opinion"!!!!!
Oh well ... I definitely know that now!!!

So ... Jax, do you know if the Grand Palace is actually closed during Songkran? Someone said they thought it might be - I definitely hope not. We may have to just wait and see when we get there.

don't know the answer to that one.
what I do know id that if you ask a Thai whilst there they will always tell you it is closed and direct you to a t. shirt shop.
I thought IMHO was in my honest opinion but that is only IMHO. LOL

Smile Grand Palace

Hi Kitty,
lucky you we have 75 days to go though I promise I am NOT counting. Don't know about Palace being closed but we went last year and now that I think about it I wish we had of got a guide to show us around and explain things. You can hire one there but when we go this year I got the name of a highly recommended person that charges 500bt per day to show you around. You have to pay for their transport costs and any entry fees but I thought this was cheap for what you get. We were thinking of getting her to show us around Chinatown as we didn't see much of it last year and are sure there is more to it...

just a thought.

Jax ... Im with you - I try to go a whole day without thinking about Thailand ... BUT I JUST CANT!!!!! I just want to be there - NOW!!!!!
And ... Im so glad you also were not 100% correct about the meaning of IMHO (even tho you did not stupidly think it was a new Dept Store I hadnt already read about!)
Karin - I agree that I think for the first time we might need a guide or a tour to see the Grand Palace, just to have someone explain everything and its meaning. Otherwise you are just looking, and not understanding!

So ... Karin you said you can hire a guide at the Palace and jax you said you did this - so how much roughly would that cost??? Im sure that would be much cheaper to make our own way there and then book a guide than actually booking a tour for the 6 of us. I think by memory a Grand Palace tour taking about 2 hours was about $30 per adult. So ... do you just hire someone as a guide when you go in??? Or maybe organise this before we actually make our way to the Grand Palace???
Oh ... so many questions!???
