Dara Samui and other Chaweng hotels? Has anyone stayed at Dara Samui before? I'd be interested in any comments or feedback. When we were in Samui last year, we stayed at Muang Samui which is almost next door and the hotel was nearly finished in August - think it opened in Sept or Oct.
It looks quite nice on the internet (don't they all?!) but perhaps a bit "glitzy" for my tastes.
We're looking at Amari as well but I think the rooms look a bit small for a longish (probably 12 nights) stay and I am travelling with my (gorgeous) mum and so by the time you have twin beds etc, we just don't want to be bumping into each other etc.
The rooms at Muang are wonderful and spacious, but the only twin rooms they have are on the ground floor and the balconies are tiny and look over a rather unattractive "stream" garden area, which is very dark and damp with lots of tropical insects! They don't have twin rooms (and apparently won't install twin beds) on the higher floors which are a bit brighter and cooler.
I looked at Muang Kulaypan on the internet and I think it's a bit too stark and modern for us.
We'd love to have any comments or suggestions from anyone - ideally we are after a hotel in that northern end of Chaweng with spacious grounds and larger rooms in a Thai style. If we could see the ocean from our room, that would be amazing, but we are happy with a lovely peaceful garden view as well.
Thanks everyone!
