This sounds like a really good holiday coming up for you. heard form others here in this forum that the small islands south of Koh Lanta like Koh Ngai, Koh Rok are also quite nice as well. perhaps you may want to visit these places as well.

Could I suggest that since you are going up to Hanoi to take train to visit Sapa as well. I went there in dec 2006 and there was plenty of nice scenery and seeing the colourful culture of people living there was interesting as well.

Enjoy and have fun....

Default What are your dates for Samui, Jax?

We're hoping to be there 12 to 22 May - it would be great to catch up if you are there at the same time!

Your trip sounds amazing - what an adventure.

How did you get on with villas etc on Samui? We are still a bit undecided about Amari - we might go back to Muang Samui - just think the deluxe rooms at Amari look a bit small for a long stay. Also considering the new (opened last Oct/Nov?) Dara Samui which is next door to Muang. It looks like a bit of a Taj Mahal but for the same rate as a room at Muang or Amari, we can get a one bedroomed suite, so we might like the extra space ... still investigating our options, which is part of the fun of the whole holiday!

Any more pics of the incredible shrinking woman to post?!

have not yet written a trip report but a few words on khao lak.

We had to be in phuket area for our jungle pick-up but we didn't fancy phuket again so opted for KL. Got a last minute rate at the Orchid hotel and it was fab. Remote (which was good!). about 50 rooms, 3 stories in a horseshoe shape so everyone faces the ocean. freeform pool just in front with orchid islands and swim up bar. then an expanse of lawn with loads of loungers and wooden structures with palm leaf roof to lounge on, just a few steps from the sea, which was very warm. beautiful beach. you had to walk half and hour in either direction before reaching the next hotel. hotel had a shuttle into town every 2 hours in day, half hourly at night, 50b pp. it was fantastic. giant rooms and great service. restaurant the only let down. it was okay but could have been so much more being beachfront and private. check it out! we paid £40 per night in jan. also popped in to see Baan Khao Lak. it too looked very swish but not everyone faced the ocean. it looked like a very nicely kept condominium complex but on the edge of town so you could easily walk in. Pool nothing to shout about.

Hi thanks for you replies.
Sue we are looking for something even cheaper than that in Koh Lak about 1500 bht a night. We are more on a budget this time.
danielle we will be in Samui from the 7th May until the 1st June so yes we will deffo meet up. Once you know where you are going to be we will sort something out we will be staying at the chaba for the first 10 nights got a really good deal 265 squid for both B and B and upgrade to ocean wing. We have decided to look for something else whilst we are there as we know the island quite well and some friends may be coming out for a couple of weeks.
60 lb down now and will post pics on return.
I am so excited .....................

Question booking

Hi, did you book the Chaba direct or with a travel agent? also do you book Samui flights from Bangkok when you get there?

Hi

booked the Chaba through a travel agent in the UK. Have booked flights on the net with Bankok airways. I have found that there is not a lot of difference doing them any other way.
The travel agents get some special deals with the hotels that is why they can do it at that price.

Jax,
I see you're flying Bangkok-Vietnam. Which airline ? ( I've just been looking earlier tonight for Easter booking and having a bit of a problem.....flights out of Bangkok are either a bit expensive or not available).
Cheers, Kimbo
