I think someone already mentioned that realistically, if you want OK snorkelling - and in particular to see some coral - there is no avoiding a boat. I've snorkelled from larger islands like Phuket, and frankly the snorkelling isn't that good. Even from the southern tip of Ko Lanta the snorkelling is 'ok', but not great. I'm afraid there's no way of avoiding use of a boat - unless of course you can arrive at an island by seaplane !!!
