I have had mixed experiences with toilets in thailand. Mostly they are europeon but if you are at markets etc often they are local and can be smelly. In bangkok in the large shopping malls they often charge 1 baht to use the public toilets. They are generally clean and europeon. I have been to Thailand a number of times and still don't get the bucket by the toilet. I think you are meant to put used toilet paper in there not flushed in the toilet but i can never bring myself to do this.
