That`s not a stupid question based on what you read.

August/September is normally one of the best times for visiting Samui,normally not as hot or humid as other times but still on the very warm side.Rain normally in this period is restricted to the odd shower or thunderstorm,nothing major to concern your self with.

You would be looking in the vicinity of around 12 hours sunlight per day around 6 30am - 6 30pm approx.
