I stayed at the Indra Regent and the Chiang Mai Plaza Hotels over xmas and New year. The Indra Regent is still the same if not slightly better than a couple of years ago. The restaurant downstairs on the ground floor has closed and they have built more clothing shops and a bank outside. You can still get the same menu up on the 4th floor at the buffet restaurant. There is also a very small McDonalds as you go out the back way on the ground floor.(may be handy for your granddaughter) 7/11 at the back of the hotel where you can get your water so you don't have to cross the street.
The Chiang Mai Plaza is a very nice hotel. The pool area is big and lots of sunbeds and tables. The night Markets start down the end of the street. Walking distance to all eating places at the night bazaar street. Take a Tuk Tuk to the 'riverside restaurant'. Their menu is huge and it only takes 5 minutes to get there. The breakfast at the hotel is well worth getting. The only annoyance I think is that the staff don't clear the tables quick enough and it gets busy. You have to sort them out and ask for cutlery.m staying at both hotels again in 2 weeks.
