Sad to hear you had a bad time,a few points.

1. Everybody wants exit row seats, they can't give 500 people exit row seats and i have booked exit row seats on Thai/Singapore air 3 months before hopping on the plane.

2. Phuket is the least "Thai" part of Thailand.

3. Everybody wants to see the beauty of Maya Bay and are upset that others want the same as them, you are all tourists making it too touristy.

So many people go to Phuket and say it's too touristy,it's been that way for 20 years.I visit Phuket for 3 days and i'm over the place and move on to Lanta,Ao Nang (which is getting busier) and Ko Lak.There are so many places in Thailand that aren't overrun yet.Chaweng is the same,it doesn't even feel Thai anymore and the northern beaches of Ko Pha Ngan are much better with Bt400 huts metres from the water and a handful of cafes. Why anyone goes to Phuket and complains that it's too touristy is absolutely beyond me.

Like i said it's sad you had a bad experience but it's more the destination you chose (Phuket) than anything else.

Cheers
