Sorry I can't comment of any of the hotels you mentioned but have stayed in the same area at the Jiva, now know as the Central Kata Resort. You need a tuk tuk to go anywhere because it is so hot to walk and this can become very expensive over one or two weeks. I really enjoyed our hotel, it was fabulous but like the one you mentioned it does require a hike to get to the beach or shops etc. We looked at the Karon Beach Resort and though it fabulous location wise as well as facilities. I think the one you are asking about was just being built when we were there. It is located among a group of shops and restaurants and is a couple of hundred metres to the beach - doesn't sound much but in the heat it is tough! Kata Village is a great spot to shop and look around, particularly at night. Dino Park is super for dinner and even for a game of mini golf for us big kids! There was a lovely bungalow place called Ruam Thep Inn which has a gorgeous restaurant overlooking the beach but it doesn't have a website. If you want to know any more just ask me. Sorry I didn't address your actual question but maybe some of my info might be useful.
