on Thailand's pride and tourism industry. The Government is blaming political rivals who have recently lost power, which clearly means Thaksin, although the Govt denies they are being specific. Unfortunately if they are right, this does add to the problems the Thai authorities already have in the southern provinces, rather than it being a part of that problem. If the Thai Govt are right, I wonder if they will ponder how much they are to blame by staging the coup in the first place; I understand Thaksin still has massive public support from a report on British TV the other day. At least, not to demean Thai lives over western lives, the bombs were in Bangkok and not targetted at foreign tourists; this might save Thailand's tourism industry to a degree.
