I think you will find the train far to slow for what you wish to do,you can use air asia to fly between bkk-chiang mai and phuket-bkk as they are probably the cheapest and have several flights per day both directions,and chiang mai-phuket or vice versa is either bangkok airways or thai air only I think but maybe only one flight per day.Depending on flight departure times it may be quicker/better for you to fly chiang mai-bkk then bkk-phuket and it may even be a little cheaper using air asia but whoever you decide to fly with i would make bookings as soon as possible rather then just rock up to the airport.
