just once on the train, bkk/hua hin, ok, but 4 hrs was enough, find bus more comfortable and faster, and usually with more availability. 407 or vip are the ones you want, only seat 24 or so, seat comparable to economy in plane, if they use ac, sometimes very cold. an inexpensive way to travel and decent runs with your destination in mind. have taken the bkk/udon run a few times, the rest shouldn' t be as long. do not plan on the scheduled time of arrival, as usually longer. definitely fly CM/PKT.
