and see there's a 2 bedroom place for 25K on Thonglor (Soi 55) which is a lot nearer the BIH than Soi 4. However the ad doesn't give much info on whether they accept short term tenants (many don't) or the deposit they require or the utitily costs. This is something you need to ask about.
The main "adult entertainment" places on Sukhumvit are the Nana Entertainment Plaza (Soi 4) and a small Soi off Soi 23 called Soi Cowboy. Many of the lower number Sois between these two places have establishments which ....erm ... "cater for men's pleasure" as do places such as the Thermae on Sukhumvit Road itself. However, I can say that as a Western female I've always felt perfectly safe walking down the street on my own at any time of day or night. (I almost always stay on Soi 11 when I'm in BKK). Nevertheless, you are bound to see Western men with Thai hook ers so if that bothers you then you'd be best looking at places at the higher number Sois further up Sukhumvit (which are nearer the BIH anyway).
You might like to have a look at a place I once stayed in place called Chatra Court which is on a quiet, fairly leafy (for BKK) backstreet off Sukhumvit, about a 5min walk from Asoke which has both BTS and MRT stations. Not bad (I stayed in one the cheapest rooms) but far more impersonal than the place I usually stay. It has a small pool too which has salty water with some strange product in it that tends to dye your ears green (washes off eventually). Also a gym and a sauna. Free breakfast included.
