At the present time John, Thailand is regressing to the same instability that pervaded the country during the 1970s and early 80. That is, political instability, the Thai military and police flexing its muscles (in the deep south), endemic corruption at the government level, Thai corporate level, and high percentile numbers for murders and other violent crimes.

The other day there was a report of a Thai police officer shooting another Thai while both were watching the World Cup Soccer in an open air bar at Surat.

Also notice how quiet the investigation has been in Kanchanaburi lately on the shooting of the Australian Woman, also in a bar watching the World Cup Soccer.

Don't expect anything to happen too soon in regards to that investigation.

Meanwhile Amnesty International is inquiring into the swift arrest, DNA testing, DNA lab results, trial and sentencing of the two Thai fishermen (both illiterate and one of whom was unrepresented in the trial), convicted of the murder of the British woman on Koh Samui earlier in the year. It appears that Amnesty is interested in the processes used and the unseemly haste of the arrest, trial and conviction.

It could be said that Amnesty has smelt something "fishy".
