Le merdien is not too far from the action. Just walk to the gate and catch a tuk tuk or taxi from the service just outside the gate into town. This is about 5 minutes away and is about 100 baht. You could hire a taxi van (4 x 4) from outside the gate for a day without a problem. We got quoted van with driver 800 baht (I think) for 6 hours. Transport is never a problem in Phuket. However I would prearrange a van to pick you up from airport seen as you have such a large group. Le meridien has huge huge pools right on the beach front. They have lap pools, gerneral swimming pools, toddler pool etc. They do not have a swim up bar. I have not seen a resort yet in Thailand that does. I could be wrong but I think this is a bali concept. what they do have is a flag service that you put on your umbrella and someone will serve you. If you stay here get breakie included in the deal as it is devine. You will need to be quick with organising accomodation for that time of the year as it is high season. Swimming will be fine. There is no water park that I am aware of. At the beach you can jet sky, and paraglide, kayak and sail ( last two free when staying at Meredien. Hope this helps
