I spent my honeymoon on Phuket at the Thavorn Beach 3 years ago. This is a 5 minute taxi from Patong, but quite out of the way for peace and quiet. The beach is not the best (not lovely white powder sand), but a great pool.
This was not the cheapest end of the budget range, but a lovely hotel (especially if funds allow for a jacuzzi room). Mid-end of May you could find some excellent deals though.
