Maybe you should look at Northern Phuket at the Bang Thao, naithon areas or southern areas such as Kata Noi Beach. A beach front small resort in northern Phuket is white sea andaman however it is quite isloated from Patong area. Patong area offers shopping bars, restaruants etc but there are small pockets of these places in other areas i.e Kata.
Have a look on the sawadee site at accomodation in the areas of have mentioned.
i guess what I am saying is Patong is not the only place to shop, get manicures, massages and eat etc in Phuket. It is a larger island than most people think.
We stayed at the Le Meridien which is just over the hill from Patong. Has its own private beach etc. it is a large resort with the loungers on beach and buy pools. Last time we stayed they said they were full but we never felt the place was crowded. Hope I have been of some use.
In terms of manicures etc just about every massage place offers these.
