Strange as it may sound, I felt safer wandering along Bangla Road (at night) than I do catching the train home from work of an evening here in Melbourne! However, I'm not an extreme nightowl, so maybe others can comment on safety for females later in the night.
On the bright side, your companion may drag you to Patong this time, but next time, it'll be your turn to choose!
