We are both 50 now, December will be our 5th, or is it 6th? visit to Thailand. Everytime we have been to Phuket and Bangkok. We stay just out of Patong at Le Meridien which you would think is a thousand miles away from the hustle and bustle of Patong, but we are a few mins away by car or taxi from bars and shopping. We are not the sort for the sex type tourist, and we find that we just enjoy a few drinks, a really good meal and "people watching", then back to the solitude of the hotel to relax. I wouldnt want to stay in Patong, but I think nearby is good. We were thinking of Le Meridien Yacht Club this year, but it was quoted as being half an hours drive from Patong, and we know what the other resorts are like and there would be little to do in the evenings. So we remained close to, but not in, Patong. Apparently after the Tsunami it is much nicer and is building up slowly again. That is my personal opinion, and I am really looking forward to visiting again this year.
