Cool Noob to the forum but not to LOS

Hey!!

Cant seem to find the "introduction forum" thats mentioned on the main page so Im posting here. Mods can do the move if necessary.

Im part of the phuket info forums but thought Id sign up here as well since you can never have enough info/friends !!

The dreary winter is kicking in and Im hoping to head off for 3 weeks to LOS/Cambodia & Laos. Seems like a bit much to stuff into 3 weeks so I might just do LOS and maybe Laos :p

Id like to get in some diving done around Phuket but if there is more pristine bits out there I dont mind roughing it out a bit.

Im not very fussy about accomodation so this trip will be partly backpacker budget and partly comfortable travel.

June I suppose the rains show up from time to time but that could be part of the fun.

This time around Id like to hit Kanchanburi, Chang Mai, Phuket & Patts for sure if its a LOS only trip and Luang prabhang and any other quint villages / islands you guys are willing to share.

Oh yeah I almost forgot.. Im in my mid twenties/male. A marketing guy but doing an admin job now. Have a decent bit saved for my trip about 1500$ AUD over my airfare :p

Anyone wants to catch up for a beer if your in those parts give us a shout!!

Hi ... just found this thread ... it has been put in the chat forum ... easy to get to either thru home page or down bottom on the 'jump to' bit.

You will get loads of info from this forum ... very helpful and friendly forumites! I only joined in January I think and got all the info I needed in only a few short months (if anything - I got too much info and didnt have enough time to do it all - only 2 weeks)

Is your $1500AUD saved also for accommodation, or is that just spending??? For a 3 week trip, that wouldnt even be enough just for my spending money!!! Accomm you will find very cheap tho.

Have fun planning and keep asking q's! Read all my jbr's from recent trip. Also checkout this website from a forumite - its got loads on info on lots of asian countries - also Cambodia

PS Ive just realised your thread has actually been put into the "SEA travel help and information bulletin" and not the chat room.

Hi Kitty!

Thanks for the welcome, Iv seen your website, must have followed the link from AsiaWebDirect or something.

$1500 is for spending+accomo... I know its a meagre budget. I do have a credit card for backup but dont plan on spending too much more

If a moderator could move this into the appropriate section it would help thanks !

Cheers!
Mak

Yes ... good luck if you manage to make $1500 last 3 weeks ... Id love to hear how you do that!! I guess if you dont plan to buy much or do too many day trips, then you might make it last. Certainly, there is very cheap food out there, prob as little as $1 or $2 a meal from street vendors. The cheapest restaurant meal we got was about $5 per person including food and drink, thats at Thai places, but still really yummy food. If your b'fasts are included, then you shd eat eat and eat then!! You may not need lunch!

As for accomm, I know it can be very very cheap too. Even where we stayed (Patong Merlin) it was unbelievably priced (package price tho) I think it worked out to about $30 per person per nite with b'fast included! There are of course much dearer options than this, but I know there are also much much cheaper options as well. I have only been to Patong and BKK, so cant really comment on the other places youre going to.

So ... maybe your budget will stretch! If you plan to do day trips, they will cost you around $50 per adult (with lunch included)

Kitty
