Default Editing a post

How do you get the edit post function to work? Tried everyway I could think of, but it doesn't seem to work. Keep getting a popup saying not authorized to use this function, even after relogging in.

Thailand Sun Edit time limit

Hi Koolbreez

There is a time limit on this to stop people saying one thing and then changing it ages later after someone else has replied. Hopefully most people will see typos / grammatical errors within a few seconds. The limit was set to 20 minutes, I have now extended that to 60 minutes. If you need a particular post edited for some reason after that, you can just ask me to do it, no problem.

Why impose a silly arbitrary time limit on edits rather than automatically blocking edits once a post has been replied to? For 60 minutes it's OK to edit as much as you want even if there have been 20 replies. 61 minutes after you post you can no longer edit at all even if there have been no replies.

It could be that you want to edit erroneous misleading information not just a typo. Too bad. The mistake in your post can no longer be changed even if there haven't been any replies to it yet. Your only option to correct your mistake is to make another post which just makes for confused reading when you're someone looking for info.

It would be far more sensible to allow edits until a post has been to replied to regardless of how long ago you wrote it.The technology is there, are you absolutely sure there isn't a button that does this on your control panel Mark?

Exclamation Hi Fio

I did not say there was not such a button (there is). What I said is I want to avoid the too often used trick of spammers and hate mongers to post nice messages and then go back and re-edit them once they become trusted by the forum's software. It is an unfortunate need I am afraid. Just like the damn trip down to Lisbon to get my wife one of the new biometric visas for the UK.

Cor!! Another mystery of life cleared up today. OK, I'll stop moaning about edits for a bit ......maybe.

Yes those new passports are a right pain. I had to get one in Bangkok recently...they claim it takes 10 days to process. It doesn't, it takes a month and you have nudge them along a bit to get it even then. And in spite of the fact that a new passport now costs 10 times what it used to, the British government is too stingy to pay more than 2 (Thai) employees to deal with the 50+ people waiting in the queue so expect to waste a whole day at least if you ever have to go there. And they don't have the 48 page ones out yet. 32 pages won't last me long, will it? So I'll have to cough up another bloody fortune in a couple of years. It's a state imposed scam, that's what it is!
