Pay for or even calculate our carbon footprint using the likes of Carbon Neutral when we fly?

From what I understand - I am no scientist though, air travel contriburtes 2%.
There will be people who shout me down but when airlines hike prices to so called counteract this problem it is just one money making scam and puts money in the pockets of the airlines.
What did the Balerics do with the so called eco tax that they put on each visitor a few years ago?
This false taxing puts tavel - In my opinion one of the most mind widening things a person can do - in danger of being out of reach to all but the rich.
There were loads of planes around during the last ice age.........not !!!!

I do think about it and take care when I am away and try to be aware of the eco systems of where we go. I also only have one major holiday a year rather than lots of little ones so that must be a positive!

Without travel and travellors would some of the places they visit be worse off without the income or better off without the environmental effects?

Default Taking Care Of The Nature

hi frnds...........
what we are is just bcoz of the nature
our nature is providing us the essentials to live
we are getting the food air and shelter due to the environent
we are getting the oxygen itself from the environment...........
even though we are dependent on other things too.........
but the primary source for all our need is just nature
so try to be honest with the nature
dont cut tree in access use...... that much what much u need
keep ur surrounding clean and green
do not use exessly the sources of nature
so start preserving the nature and its resources and save the LIFE

Hello,
I am Ajay your thinking to save environment is really a positive approach and everybody can concentrate on it by taking appropriate steps to conserve our nature in which we all survive.
Thanks

I've never really thought about all of the emissions that come from traveling. I guess it's another way that we need to be responsible for the Earth.

I've studied Tourism impacts and the environment quite extensively. when i travel i try to use local transport as much as i can, i'm very concerned about my impacts on the environment when i travel- so much that i want to become an environmental officer for a tourism destination however I do not believe in Carbon offsetting. Most carbon off setting schemes you are paying an organisation to plant trees (most which won't be native to the region of the tree planting -very negative impact!) or money goes towards 'research' into reducing global warming. With scientist saying the world is getting hotter oceans while rise within 20 years blah blah.... let not forget its take 300 years for a single Carbon molecule to break up in the atmosphere. hmmm time is running out.

Instead as a tourist if you feel guilty of your impact instead of carbon off setting we should be more concerned on our environmental impact in a new country e.g. not littering, not picking flowers & touching flora & fauna, alway using designated footpathes, don't buy shells or coral related products, look into local charity's that plant indigenous species and give back to the local economy. Whilst in some cases there is very little we can do about the effects of global warming but we can do our best to protect the local environment when we travel
