A place to be avoided?!!

Aussie Bar & Phuket Police Corruption

I did not "credit" the Thai / Phuket police with being as bent as the Balinese Mafia (Polda / Police), but I guess it could be so. When I read about the tourist recently arrested and detained for stealing a beer mat (also at the Aussie Bar), I thought this does not sound like Phuket (more like Legian). But with this account I guess it must be true. I actually had a "friend" (acquaintance) in the police in Phuket, a senior investigator, and I did not see the kind of corruption I saw in Indonesia. A property we were involved in was burgled and some of my wife's jewelry was taken, so I made an incentive (reward) for the police to catch the guy and they did; oiling the wheels of justice to make it happen a little faster and not get forgotten. But not this I thought. Sounds bad, spiked drinks, bad and changing arrest charges. Need a friend (an envelope with $ in it) to make the problem go away. These cops must have been on a training class in Jakarta.
