Default Yangon or Mandalay?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to need some info about those two cities.
I'm planing a short vacation in august with boyfriend and we want to visit Buma. What do you think we should chose to visit? Which has more POI's?

Thanks in advance!
Evy

Hi, You've got to see Pagan and from memory (30 years ago) you need to get to Mandalay first.

Hope this helps

Peter

Hi Evy,

I went to Burma earlier this year but didn't go to Mandalay. However I did go to Yangon. I think however you get there you will have to go through Yangon as land borders have restricted access.

In Yangon, there are some very ornate golden temples that are nice to see but the temples of Bagan are the best thing to see in Burma for sure. I'm not sure how you want to get there though. I guess easiest would be coach from Yangon but it will take quite a long time. If you take the train like my girlfriend and I did you are in for a treat haha! I think the coach will be cheaper, more comfortable and faster!!

Please be aware though that travel around Burma is quite restrictive and because tourism is still in its early stages you may want to call ahead to the next place you go. Also don't go to Mawlamyine. If you do you will know why when you get there!

Hey, Have a great time in Myanmar.
It's been thirty years since I was last in Burma and what a trip we had. At that time visitors were only allowed 7 days in Burma and there was only one international flight in per day.
We travelled from Rangoon to Mandalay by train then we caught another train to Bagan. It was a wonderful trip and everyone was so friendly.
If you want some good travel info take a look at Train travel in Myanmar (Burma) | Train times, fares, tickets, photos. This site has some terrific info which I have used throughout India and South East Asia.
