The alleged discounts are all smoke an mirrors when if you call to get a walk in rate as random customer it is a price that is a third or half price of the % discounted room that accor offers to the membership.. If anyone is thinking of the Accor membership cards as a benefit all I have to say is Accor is Acrap.
What part about allocated rooms for the complementry night dont you understand? I have just booked my FOC night at the gold coast Sofitel for the 1st January 2010 less than a month out. Of coarse the higher star hotels book out alot thats where everyone wants to stay dont complain we all have the same idea to use our free night at the best hotel. as for the smoke and mirrors, how hard is it to understand that u get half price dinning, this in itself has saved me almost $200 this year. you can not walk in off the street and get a cheaper deal either, i had both WOTIF website and also Advantage plus website up and the rate was over $60 chgeaper with advantage plus. Maybe you people are just not utilising your membership correctly???

Smile Advantage Plus

I have been a member for many years and never had a problem, although I use the card mainly in Australia and just a few times in New Zealand. Appears to me that the problem lies in Vietnam. Have always been able to use my free nights, once only had to take second choice hotel, no big deal.

Always take advantage of the cheaper rates by booking through the Accor Advantage Plus website, this is even cheaper than if you book through the A Club.

Thumbs up Well I am happy

Hi think this is wrong as I have been a member for three years and have had not problems. Sure getting a free night isn't always easy but I got it and also loads of great cheap rates for my wife and I. Best part for me is the restaurants - loads in Bangkok and great deals. Looks like you expected to much for a small cost!

Wink Do not agree

I have been a member with Advantage Plus before and I have nothing but great things to say about it. Like every product out there, it does not suit EVERYONE. We are told upon buying the membership that the FREE night is subject to availibility and allocation. Therefore as a member I would then assume that I would have to book in advance to secure the room I want at the hotel I want. I'm lucky enough to live within 15km's of one of Accor's hotels and my partner and I eat there at there smorgasboard (and it has everything from everywhere all over the world) a buffet as far as the eye can see and instead of the $40/person non-Accor members would pay, we only pay $20/person. We eat there weekly and have well and truly made back our money. Maybe look at other ways you can use your membership. Just a suggestion.

again a simular reply, I tried to book my free night at one of only two motels in Adelaide only to find one available. the best one did not even show up on the menu and the one that did showed a basic standard room that i would not stay at. (ok if it was just an overnighter for work) this was not the upgraded room as was promised to me when the girl sold me the deal. when i did a normal check there were heaps of rooms available at the better motel. Who determines what rooms are available for the free night? so what this card does is sell off all the low budget rooms. THIS CARD IS A RIP OFF. DO NOT SIGN UP. these people should be investigated by the ACCC. what they promise on the phone is not what you get. read this and record their conversation. don't get suckered in like I did. And I don't know anywhere in the world where you would pay $40 pp for a smorgasboard (pigs trough). are you serious??

Angry Bob

When i joined accor we were advise that we were entitled to "Accor on Request Holidays" to quote from their big book of big holidays. "You can use your Premiere Points to reserve accomodation at an additional range of properties - this program features apartments and rooms under the famous Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, ibis and resort brands." When we first joined we used the service and recently tried to use it again, only to be told that this Accor on Request no longer existed. This was a big reason for us joining Accor Advantage Plus, for we realised from the start that Accor Advantage Plus itself had little to offer, which has certainly proven to be true over time. so another broken promise and one I currently have my solictor looking into.
As for their internet service, it is hopeless.
However, it is worth while when you transfer your points to Interval International.

Smile Some brains please

You have to admit that it's not always possible to get the hotel you want where you want it at the time you want it, but let's be honest here, Accor is a business after all. I managed to get the free night that was promised to me at a hotel which I have stayed at before anyway. It's the Novotel hotel in St.Kilda, Melbourne which is not a 5 star hotel either but it's a hotel where as I already said, a hotel that I had stayed at before. Plus I got my free bottle of wine , which was promised to me, if at least one of the people I suggested joined too. But you have to be a bit clever and work out how to make it worth it. In my case in the 3 months that I have been a member, I already got my money back easily. Let's me work it out for you how I have done this. I got the free night which would have normally been worth around a $140 upwards. Then I got the 50% discount on smorgasboard breakfast for two which was normally $20 per person. That's another saving of $20. After that each time we go to melbourne we go and have a nice dinner at one of the different accor hotels where I also get the 50% off. Now as you would all know, you can't eat out for less than around $30 per person including desert and one or two glasses of wine. That's not exagerating surely is it? So instead of ending up with a bill of around $60 to $80 for two people to eat out you would be paying $30 to $40 instead. So as you can see if you eat out at these hotels a few times, it doesn't take too long to get all your money back and then some. So come on, lets all look at some of the positive things too and not just the negatives.

Angry Stolen Advantage Plus Card - you have to pay again

I had my travel wallet stolen in France on 19 Jan 2010 at Gare Du Nord. When I notified Advantage Plus in Sydney today after arriving back at the weekend I was told I had to pay $20 for a new card and postage for a replacement card to be issued. I refused and I will not be renewing on principle.

Exclamation Susi

Wow, and we thought it was just us...
We booked Novotel Palm Cove with family who are also members, they are from Melbourne, we are from Brisbane. We booked 6 months in advance and were assured that we would have rooms side by side...we both had small kids at the time. We phoned closer to our ETA and were assured that we would be together.
On arrival one family was in one block and the other family were in a totally different block of units, the room next door to one of the units was free and so we enquired and were told that they were holding this room for another group who had requested to be together!!
Mercure Geelong, the rooms were substandard, the toilet blocked and the night manager, who was also the bar manager and the front receptionist couldn't help us as he was too busy. We were a big group in town for a wedding, and after the wedding we all converged on the bar in our hotel for a night cap, only to be told that we could not have a drink as there was no-one to serve us....
We have kept the membership going - don't know why.
We booked Novotel Palm Cove - yet again, with the same family from Melbourne, surely they couldn't get it wrong again....YUP - same again, we were so far apart AGAIN!!!
One time we were invited to Twin Waters to attend a forum on "Time Share" and we felt so intimidated and badly bullied that we walked out....
We have been members since 2001 - silly us....and will definitely NOT be renewing this year, neither will the family from Melbourne...Even if they beg and beg (as they do each year)...
Wish this forum was around when we joined, I wonder if anyone from Accor read it????
Signed disgruntled and disgusted...

Smile over 5 year member

Hi all,

As some have previously posted there are advantages to being a member, it is not just about the free night you get...

I have been a member for 6 years now and during a couple of them I have not had the chance to use my free night (we did stay at a hotel during the year, but it was not in an Accor one as not close to where we wanted at the time) and without a problem my free night just rolled over and I have just last week used my last free night (2 nights in the last 6 months at the Novotel Darling Harbour, Sydney) I will also add that both times I chose to upgrade to a Harbour view for only $30...

During our stay we had a beautiful 3 course dinner in their restaurant with great views at 50% off (saved approx $60 each time)and enjoyed their full buffet breakfast also at 50% off saved $25 1st visit and $30 2nd one)...

During the January holidays we spent a week at a great rate, breakfast included, at Salamander Bay, Port Stephens (this establishment I had stayed at previous to it's joining Accor), at half the price I was ready to pay at our favourite place in Shoal Bay, Port Stephens and again we dined on 2 occasions in their restaurant at 50% off the bill and their fare was impeccable...

It seems Vietnam has been a sore point amongst a few of the posters here and I can't speak for that country and I have not had to book with other people so I can't speak for that either... But I will be renewing again in February for the dining discounts alone...

Cheers
Kerrally
